About The Big Movement
What is The Big Movement?
The Big Movement is a monumental mass movement initiative to get thousands of men moving for men’s mental health, reminding men they are not on their own. Through this powerful collective force we aim to epically raise awareness of Men’s Mental Health.
Right now, 1 in 3 men in the UK faces isolation and loneliness. That loneliness doubles the risk of depression and suicide. And yet, too many men still feel they have to tough it out alone. We refuse to let that happen.
The Big Movement is our answer. A loud, powerful force and unapologetic act to reduce isolation because through togetherness, we’ll find our light.
From workplaces to community centres, high streets to parks, men will move together for their mental health; one move at a time. And in 2027, it all leads to something historic: the world’s first mass male dance event, set to take over Southampton.
Why is it the main event in 2027 on a bridge?
Bridges connect people and places – they’re symbols of coming together and moving forward. The Big Movement uses the bridge as a powerful backdrop to bring men together, create connection, and shine a light on mental health where it really matters. Plus, it’s pretty epic to dance with that view!
Why have you chosen Itchen Bridge?
The Itchen Bridge is a well-known spot in Southampton: a place that connects people, just like The Big Movement wants to do. It’s also sadly a place where some people have struggled deeply, which makes it even more important for us to bring positive energy, connection, and hope there.
Plus, dancing on a bridge? Pretty unforgettable, right?
Why is The Big Movement in Southampton and not somewhere else?
Southampton’s our home turf – ZoieLogic Dance Theatre is based here, so it just makes sense to kick things off where we’re rooted. But don’t worry, you don’t have to be from Southampton to get involved!
Is The Big Movement cool?
We believe so! It’s all about good vibes, real connections, and moving in ways that feel right to you. Come see for yourself – it’s as cool as you make it!
Who It’s For
Who am I doing this for?
You. Plain and simple.
Whether you’re here for yourself or for the people you care about, The Big Movement is about creating a space that resonates with your experience and helps you feel connected. It’s for you to move, to breathe, and to be part of something real.
Can I bring my partner?
Yes, you’re welcome to bring your partner along. Just keep in mind that these spaces are designed primarily for adult men, so the vibe and conversation may reflect that. We’re all about making people feel comfortable, so if it helps you feel more at ease, bring someone with you.
Can the kids come along?
Some of our events are open and family-friendly, while others are just for adult men to create a focused and supportive space. If you’re not sure whether it’s okay to bring your kids to a specific event, just drop us a message at info@zoielogic.co.uk – we’ll work out together what’s best.
Why is it only for men?
The Big Movement spaces are designed specifically for men to have their own time and space to talk, move, and connect. Men’s mental health has some unique challenges, so this project focuses on creating a safe, supportive environment just for them. But don’t worry – we know everyone plays a huge role in men’s wellbeing, and support from others is super important
How can women get involved?
Women can get involved in loads of ways – by advocating for The Big Movement, volunteering with us, encouraging the men in their lives to take part, and keeping an eye out for our social events that are open to everyone. Mental health affects us all, so your support and energy make a huge difference. Want to find out more? Just drop us a line at info@zoielogic.co.uk – there’s plenty of ways to join the movement!
Getting involved
How do I get there?
The Big Movement events take place all across Southampton in a mix of venues and outdoor spaces. You’ll find travel details, maps, and directions on each event page. If you need a hand planning your journey or have specific travel questions, just get in touch at info@zoielogic.co.uk – we’re happy to help.
What sort of dancing do you do?
Honestly? We use the word “dancing” pretty loosely. This is all about getting men moving – in whatever way works for you. It’s more about feeling good than getting the steps right. No one’s shouting “5, 6, 7, 8” at you (unless you’re into that, in which case… maybe).
Join in as much or as little as you like – zero pressure, just good vibes.
What if I’ve never danced before?
No problem! The Big Movement is all about encouraging men of all backgrounds and experiences to get moving. Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or have never even done a head-nod or foot-tap, you’re welcome here. Our sessions are designed to be accessible and supportive, helping you rediscover your confidence and creativity through movement.
Who will I be dancing with?
You’ll be moving with a crew of men from all sorts of backgrounds – basically, a proper mix of guys who’re part of The Big Movement. Want to chat with someone who’s been before you come along? Just shoot us an email at info@zoielogic.co.uk and we’ll hook you up.
Is there an age limit to join?
Yep — The Big Movement is currently for anyone aged 16 and over. That said, we’re working on creating educational programmes to reach and include younger male-identifying people too. Watch this space!
If you’re part of, or run, an educational programme and you’re interested in something bespoke, give us a shout at info@zoielogic.co.uk — we’d love to chat.
Do I need to be “fit” to join?
Not at all! Our sessions are designed to be inclusive and adaptable to various fitness levels. Whether you’re looking to improve your physical health, mental well-being, or just have fun, there’s a place for you in The Big Movement.
What do I wear?
Come as you are! Just wear whatever you’re comfy moving around in. Trainers are a good shout if you’ve got ‘em, but no pressure – it’s all about feeling good and having fun.
What should I bring?
Nothing fancy — just yourself! If you’re coming to a movement session, bring a water bottle to stay hydrated and maybe a snack to keep your energy up. Don’t worry, we usually have some snacks and a cuppa ready too.
Will I have to perform?
Nope… well, maybe a little! Only if you want to. If you fancy getting on stage, we’re all for it – we’re a dance company after all, and we love seeing people shine. But there’s zero pressure if you just want to hang out and move.
Do I have to attend all the time?
Nope! Come whenever it suits you – no pressure, no guilt. We’re here when you’re ready.
Costs and Commitments
Do I have to pay anything?
Nope – it’s totally free to join in. No sneaky fees, just good vibes.
Are you going to pay me to take part?
Nope, we don’t pay you to take part. But, we do promise it’ll be worth your time.
Do you pay my travel costs?
Yep! If getting here costs you a bit too much, just let us know – we can help cover travel expenses. Shoot us an email at info@zoielogic.co.uk and we’ll sort it out.
Am I going to get bombarded by tons of emails?
Nope. We hate spam too. We’ll only send you the stuff you actually need — like updates, event info, and things you’ve asked for. If it ever feels like too much, just let us know. We’re always up for making it better: info@zoielogic.co.uk
Once I sign up, can I unsubscribe at any time?
The easiest way is to find the most recent email you sent us and either hit the ‘Unsubscribe’ or ‘Change my preferences’ button at the bottom of the email.
Accessibility
Is the location accessible?
We aim to hold all The Big Movement events in venues or outdoor spaces that are wheelchair accessible and easy to reach by public transport. Accessibility varies slightly depending on the location, so if you’re unsure about a specific event or site, feel free to contact us for details.
What if I have additional access needs?
We want everyone to feel welcome and able to take part in The Big Movement. If you have any specific access requirements – whether physical, sensory, communication-based or otherwise – please get in touch with us at info@zoielogic.co.uk. We’ll do our best to support your needs and make adjustments wherever possible.
Inclusion
What do we mean when we refer to men?
When we refer to men, we are inclusive of all gender identities, presentations, experience and expressions of being a man. It is always the choice of participants and attendees of our events on whether our projects feel relevant and right for them.
How do we reduce the barriers to you taking part?
We know it can feel daunting to try something new, especially dance. That’s why we keep things simple, welcoming, and flexible. You don’t need experience, special clothes, or to commit to every session. All our events are free to attend, and we aim to make them accessible, inclusive, and supportive. If there’s something stopping you from joining in, like travel, access, confidence, or anything else… talk to us. We’ll do our best to help make it possible. You can speak to the team by emailing info@zoielogic.co.uk.
It’s dancing, is it gay?
No – dancing isn’t “gay” or “straight.” It’s just a way of expressing yourself, moving your body, and connecting with others. The Big Movement is for all men, no matter your background, sexuality, or experience. We’re here to challenge stereotypes, not reinforce them – and to make dance something everyone can enjoy.
